I was wondering if the threads become loose after washing away the stabilizer. Very good work.
I just tried it! This is gonna work great thanks
Great to hear! You’re welcome ☺️
That's a cool thing to try! I was thinking you would be wrapping the outside for display but I keep having grip issues so I may try this
Very nice I'm going to try these
Enjoy!
Going to have to try to use basket weave outside of baskets!
Merci,jolie broderie.👍👏👏🌞
You’re welcome, and thank you! 😊
Love this! What kind of material is your sweater? I’m super new and about to tackle embroidering clothes with a sweater as my goal
Thank you! It’s cotton! Make sure to use some stabilizer on the back, I like to use a stick and tear away kind. It stabilizes the knitting so the fabric doesn’t stretch or distort while you’re stitching ☺️
I have tulips I want to embroider different shades of purple. They are pretty big, do I need to use 6 strands on a small needle or a bigger needle?
I would use a size 3 or 5 embroidery needle if you’re using 6 strands!
@@crewelghoul thank you☺️
I thoroughly enjoyed this video!!! Thank you for sharing!! ♥️🤩🥰
You’re so welcome! ☺️
Love the chain stitch
What is the name of this thread
DMC! It’s 6 stranded cotton floss
I love it SO much !! Congratulation !
Thank you so much!!
Really nice bunch of tips, i dont know why this video doesn't get more likes or comments, considering the fact that you give us free high quality insight. So thanks a lot ! 💛
I appreciate it, I’m so glad it was helpful!
I'm a very beginner embroiderer hoping to work my way up to doing a design on a thrifted sweater very similar to this! Did you do any kind of stabilizing on the inside? or is there something you can put over tthe back of the embroidery after to secure it?
This looks incredibly awesome and inspiring btw!
Thank you! I put some stick and tear away stabilizer while I was embroidering it but I didn’t put anything else over the stitches on the back. But there is some stuff called Tender Touch Stabilizer that is meant to iron on and seal the back if you’re worried the stitches will scratch you or fall out!
@@crewelghoul Thank you! This is so helpful! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer!
Lovely video, I always do split stitch as a back stitch making it easier to split it as I can see it😊
Yes! I tend to do that too when I’m working with less thread, it feels way easier that way!
What is the best online store for embroidery? I would like to be able to buy specific color of cotton or thread without having to purchase a set of twenty half of which I won’t use. What is the brand of hoop you suggested?
You can usually find sellers on Etsy that sell floss by the skein and if you search beechwood embroidery hoops those are what I like to buy. Also you can buy thread directly from DMC.com
nice
I just want to say thank you period because I've seen a couple of videos and they don't give me the terminology or the the jargon. And you don't take your time with the stitches. So thank you very much.I'll be watching you again.Thank you😊
Glad I could help!
Thanks for all the information about stabilisers it was really helpful. Thanks. X
I feel like I went to art school in a few mins. thank you for this! Love the cute presentation with the bobbins as well
Awesome! Thank you! ☺️
Great tip ! Thanks
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think the only thing I can add is that the brand of floss can impact the final look of your work. Cosmo threads are finer than DMC. I use them when I want something wispy and delicate, or to add fine detail. Anchor and J&P Coates are more coarse than DMC. I use them when I'm stitching something textural like bark or turkey stitched thistles.
That’s very helpful. Thanks for sharing!
I guess I'm the odd one out. I find satin stitch just ok. It is a little boring and can be unsatisfing when you take time to get everything even and on second glance I see every irregularity, which is annoying. Maybe more practice on my part is needed. I also use knots, just waste knots that gets clipped away.
The music is such a bop, does anyone know the name of the track at 2:40?
Ah I can’t remember I’m sorry!
Part of this is an unpopular comment 😅: I like satin stitch a lot. Yes it does take a ton of practice to get it right, it took me a really long time, but I really like combining it in projects with other stitches when I want an object to look really smooth. You can shade with it too to an extent, you'll just be switching floss every couple stitches. I am working on a project right now that has blueberries and leaves, the leaves I did a lot of shading with long and short, the blueberries I did with shading satin stitch and it looks super realistic. I'm with you though on not really caring what the back looks like for a wall hanging, and flowers all the time do get very boring. It IS definitely an art form. Anyone who says it's not can go embroider quaint sayings, lol. I don't like the hoops hanging on the wall either, looks so country to me.
That’s very interesting, I have never tried shading with it! Thanks for sharing ☺️
@@crewelghoul I just use 2 threads at a time, otherwise the shading looks too chunky. If you try it, I hope you have fun!
#shiv_krupa_embroidery . Very nice
Very thorough! Thanks! ❤️
Anything other than keeping it in a hoop! Would love to see the options you choose.
Where do you get the plastic to cover the piece?
It’s called super solvy water soluble stabilizer! I get the light or medium weight one. You can get it on Amazon
when applying the stabilizer, could you just apply it on the shirt inside out since the positioning would be the same when flipped back? would make it a lot easier to apply the stabilizer on the flat shirt inside out rather than trying to fit it through the neck hole
Yes, I applied it in a very inconvenient way in this video haha
I'll google the item if I remember to -- but just for feedback's sake, the mention here of water-soluble stabilizer is a bit confusing. We don't learn what it actually is or see it at all, just hear a couple of the benefits you get from it, so beginners like me end up with no real understanding of what's being discussed there or how it works. Great example of an expert being too used to their background knowledge and forgetting that novices have no such contextual information to work with lol, happens to teachers all the time, especially in my niche (healthcare education) :P Hope the feedback is useful to you or some other educational creator! And I still learned a ton from the rest of the video, thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience with us!
Thanks for the feedback! I have photos and links to it in the blog post that is linked in the description, but I understand your point!
@@crewelghoul Ahh makes sense, thanks a bunch for the info and your fantastic attitude! 🥰
I have been doing this type of embroidery for a short time, so your tips are very helpful. If I don't like the way, or thread number looks; I just get my little scissors out and snip it all out and try again.
I bet someone could 3d print cool elaborate frames that fit over an embroidery hoop 🤔
Yes that’s an amazing idea! There’s actually a company called acms needlework that makes really nice wood frames that go over hoops too.
Thank you, this was very helpful. I will definitely try a few of your tips.
What is the name of this green colour fabric ?
It’s wool felt!
Thank you for this, it was helpful!
You’re welcome, glad to help!
Thank you so much! As a beginner, I really struggle with picking a fabric color to work on that won't clash with my thread colors. ❤
It can be tricky for sure!
Simple , straightforward! Thank you
Thank you, so glad you think so!
What thread are u using?
Dmc stranded cotton floss
Cross stitcher wanting to become an embroidery artists here. I use tiny knots. I hate tucking. My fabric lays better and my works are neater.
That's awesome! I don't do cross stitch as often but I have always tucked the thread or done a loop start because I was always afraid it might show through the Aida. Good to know!
Loved this video. I find myself rather violently resistant to round embroidery patterns quickly tucked into round wooden hoops and put up....where? Except for the commenter creatng a gallery wall. I get that. Otherwise it feels very diminishing or infantalizing to me somehow. Plus such works are often small compared to other approaches. So please make that video too about other ways to display and incorporate such work!
Will do! Looking forward to sharing some ideas!
I will be applying these principals!!! Thank you ❤❤❤❤
I don't love satin stitch either, it's just not fun for me to try to get even. I'm doing a gift for someone with a lot of satin stitch and it's really teaching me a lot. I also do a huge amount of knots... Ive been embroidering 2 or 3 years and never thought of another way of doing it, so you saying that is kind of like 😅 wow I thought that was the ONLY way 😂 As for displaying: I actually hang all my favorite work I do in my house! So I have tons of different hoop sizes and I really like the way aesthetically it looks on the wall with various hoop sizes contrasted against obviously a flat square wall. But, stitching on clothes or blankets would be fun or at least starting in a hoop and putting them onto other things.
I love the gallery wall idea for all of your projects!
Thank you this was very helpful!!! ❤
💔I’m sorry that happened to you! Sounds lovely to go outside early in morning and sew. Maybe build up another collection soon? I am going to purchase some soon thanks to Amanda!
I love John James needles, they’re pretty much the best quality. I had a lovely needle case with all JJ needles in it and I had been sewing outside on my patio last summer. We had such lovely weather I just left my sewing on my kitchen table and each morning I went outside with my coffee and sewing early to make a start on my project….well it ended up that I lost ALL my JJ needles. Every single one of them😱😥. Searched and searched…. never found them.
oh no! That is the worst! I absolutely love stitching outside as well. Hope you can find them or get some more soon!
Yes! Satin stitch haunts my nightmares, it never looks right, it's only advantage is that it's pretty fast to stitch but it really lacks any visual interest...it's so flat it reminds me of what a sewing machine would do. I also have big feelings about how embroidery is not considered art and I think this is because it's traditionally something women learn and do, and it's been marginalized as an art form because of it. But if I guy does it? He's called a "fine art embroiderer" (I won't name names, but there is an artist who works on toile de jouy and that is how he's described.) I've yet to see a woman be called a "fine art embroiderer" but their work is every bit as elevated. Another thing sort of tangential to points you've brought up is that I also think it can become boring to stitch on a square of brand new fabric ad infinitum. I've been incorporating thrifted textiles into my practice and it's so much fun! Anyway, thanks for the work you do and another thought-provoking video, as a UA-cam creator myself I love discovering other creators and going in deep. I appreciate you!
Yes! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I love reflecting on and reading about the rich history of embroidery and it's relationship to art and craft. There is so much there...a whole lot of feelings it brings up for me in regards to how it is viewed. Maybe one day I'll try to make a video talking more about it and it's history; I think there is a whole lot there to talk about! Thrifting textiles is the absolute best, it really sparks some inspiration when you find an interesting color or pattern of fabric. Thanks Helen!
@@crewelghoul Thanks for the reply! I agree with you, that would make a great video!
@crewelghoul please do make that video post haste! Lol. Meanwhile can you suggest reading materials along these lines? Thank you
Omg I agree with you on EVERYTHING!! We are literally on the same page with all those topics!. I knot my stitches, I don't care bout the back I actually love seeing a messy back lol. I would love to see a video on how you display your work. Looking forward to it! ❤❤❤❤
Yesss thank you! I definitely plan to share one soon! ☺️
Hi. I don't enjoy the satin stitch either. Something else I didn't enjoy, is the music you chose.. OMG it's awful! I would have preferred you didn't have any music at all while you were talking. But that's just me. 😉
Haha thank you for the feedback!
